Contents Insurance
Contents insurance is not essential but it is recommended as your tenantsa EUROS TM deposits may not be sufficient to pay for any damage to the contents. If the property is let unfurnished it is not necessary to take out a full contents insurance policy a EUROS you only need a policy to cover for damage to items such as flooring, curtains and any kitchen appliances you have supplied. This could range from 5,000 to 15,000-worth of cover. Your tenants will need to take out their own insurance cover for their belongings.
If the property is let fully furnished, you need to take out full contents insurance, this should cover more than double the amount you would need for an unfurnished property. This should only cover your contents, your tenants will still need their own insurance to cover their possessions.
If you didna EUROS TMt get landlords contents cover and you used a standard home insurance policy to cover property you have let, the excess is likely to be higher or you may not be insured at all so check this when you take out the policy. A 30-day limit is also likely to apply to periods when the property is empty and you may not be given the option of paying a higher premium to be covered for accidental damage as you would as an owner-occupier.
